Detailed itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival in Paro & Thimphu Exploration (Max Altitude: 2334 m / 7657 ft)
Welcome to Bhutan! Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, our representative will greet you after immigration formalities. We'll then embark on a scenic two-hour drive to Thimphu, Bhutan's charming capital. Along the way, we'll visit the Memorial Stupa, a revered monument dedicated to the third King of Bhutan. Next, prepare to be awestruck by the majestic Buddha Dordenma, a colossal 52-meter Shakyamuni Buddha statue completed in 2015 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the fourth King. We'll conclude our day with a visit to Tashichho Dzong, a magnificent Buddhist monastery and fortress that serves as the seat of Bhutan's civil government.
Day 2: Thimphu to Punakha Roundtrip (Max Altitude: 2800 m / 9185 ft)
Today, we'll embark on a captivating 7-8 hour round trip journey from Thimphu to Punakha, Bhutan's former capital until 1955. Our first stop will be the breathtaking Dochula Pass, offering panoramic views of the surrounding Himalayan mountains and picturesque landscapes. As we continue, we'll visit the Chimi Lhakhang Temple of Fertility, a unique and revered site. Our journey culminates at the stunning Punakha Dzong, a magnificent fortress built by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal in 1637, known for its architectural grandeur. Afterwards, we'll return to Thimphu for your overnight stay.
Day 3: Return to Paro & Tiger's Nest Hike (Min Altitude: 2200 m / 7218 ft)
Our third day begins with a 1-2 hour drive back to Paro. Here, you'll drive to the base camp of Taktsang, the legendary Tiger's Nest Monastery. Brace yourself for an invigorating hike up to this iconic monastery, perched precariously on a sheer cliff face about 900 meters above the Paro Valley. On our descent, we'll visit the ancient Kichu Temple, one of the oldest in Paro, dating back to the 7th century. In the evening, immerse yourself in authentic Bhutanese life with a visit to a local farmhouse. Here, you'll savor an organic Bhutanese dinner and experience a traditional Hot-Stone Bath ā the perfect way to unwind after your hike!
Day 4: Final Departure
On your last day, enjoy a final Bhutanese breakfast. We'll then bid you farewell and transfer you to Paro International Airport approximately two hours before your scheduled departure.
Please Note for 3-Day Travelers: If you've opted for the 3-day itinerary, you'll skip the roundtrip to Punakha on Day 2. Instead, your journey will proceed directly with the plans outlined for Day 3 and onwards.
