From the station in Alpnachstad, you first pass through the small village of Alpnachstad. Then it's off into the forest! The first section of the route is the steepest. For the first two hours, we enjoy the increasingly beautiful views of Obwalden as we climb along forest paths. Then suddenly the forest ends and the path becomes more barren and stony. But the views get better and better.
Halfway up, we could take the steepest cog railroad in the world to reach the summit. But we persevere and enjoy the scenery on foot. The Hotel Pilatus Kulm is our destination and we enjoy our impressions together over a cold drink on the viewing platform. We then take the cable car back to Kriens.
