What you can expect
ALBERTINA klosterneuburg
With the opening of its 3rd location, ALBERTINA klosterneuburg, it is now possible to experience works of art from ALBERTINA Museums unique collections.
The architecturally appealing, modern museum building is located just 3 km from the city border, directly in the countryside next to the Danube.
Selected works from the museum's own holdings are now presented here. The focus is on the collection of post-1945 art, which has grown considerably in recent years due to numerous donations. It now comprises around 65,000 works of art and is constantly being expanded. Great artworks are now being made accessible to the public in changing presentations of around 150 works at a time.
To mark the opening, three main exhibitions will be on display in the first season in 2024:
1.Pop Art - The Bright Side of Life
Here, American Pop Art, Austrian positions of this movement and international painting of the 21st century make a cheerful statement.
2.From Hundertwasser to Kiefer - From the symbol of freedom to the shadows of the past
Abstraction of the 1950s and 1960s is the headline for Viennese Actionists, representational positions from Germany as well as rooms dedicated to Anselm Kiefer and Maria Lassnig.
3.Presentation focus on sculpture: The damaged world
In the “Danube Wave”, a hall named due to its unusual architecture, an artistic search for traces of war, destruction, illness and misery finds its place.
