What you can expect

This walking tour focuses on the three oldest and most historic neighborhoods in Kansas City. The sights, sounds and smells of the City Market entice its visitors and a visit to the Steamboat Arabia brings long-forgotten stories from the past alive. The Garment District provides an impressive overlook across the river and into the Kansas City, Kansas skyline and the Library District displays beautiful architecture from the 1870's.

After gathering under the iconic City Market sign, the group will meander through the stalls to experience the many diverse, ethnic and local eateries and store fronts. Walking over the Town of Kansas bridge will highlight the importance the railroad and cattle trade had on the growth of the city.

The Garment District was the 2nd largest in the country only to New York City and it was started by a woman. Her entrepreneurial story is only one of several shared on this tour that highlights the economic, architectural, and social impact that women had on Kansas City's early growth.

A short walk to the Library District places you on one of the prettiest urban streets in Kansas City, which is mostly unknown and overlooked by local residents. You'll get an insiders view of this lovely neighborhood and hear the stories about the buildings and their early occupants.

The tour ends with a short street car ride back to the City Market.
