Recently restored the historical town has magnificent timber-framed and sandstone buildings. Are you afraid of rats? You will immediately notice that the pavements in the old town are painted with rats, painting that beholds one of the legends of this small town.
The old quarter centers, situated around Osterstrasse and Pferdemarkt square are definitely worth a visit. Between them are narrow, winding lanes dotted with cafés and inns, cozy beer gardens and pretty little shops. It's the perfect area to stroll around, grab a bite to eat and browse for souvenirs. See the Pied Piper house and learn the legend that surrounds this building. Discover the Minster of St. Boniface which dates back to the 9th century and is the oldest church in Hamelin. Walk through the market church of St. Nicholas, which was built before the 13th century, and to the modest but beautiful baroque 18th century’s Garrison Church. Hamelin certainly has its charm.
