This hike is the perfect excursion to discover the amazing nature of the Madonie Mountains in a few hours. We'll walk through an area of the Madonie Park rich in huge, monumental trees. There are uncharacteristically large oaks, maple trees and beech trees, but one species stands out from the others… Our main stop, Piano Pomo (1,400m), is in a truly extraordinary place: an entire wood of giant hollies, comprised of more than 100 trees. These gargantuan holly trees reach nearly 20m high and are several centuries old. You will discover together with our nature guide how such a place can exist and why it is so special. We will also relax at the nearby pagliaio (shepherd's hut) and enjoy some local biscuits. We will then reach Cozzo Luminario (1,512m): here, we will enjoy amazing panoramic views over the mountains and the coast. On clear days, we can even see as far as Mount Etna. Along the trail, you will be able to observe many interesting plants and rare endemic species. On your way, you will also cross paths with some of the Madonie Mountains’ inhabitants: birds, fallow deer, butterflies, coleopters, etc.
