There are around 110 murals at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, but eight are the most spectacular. The space was named a World Heritage Site by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 2007 and opened in 1952. On the facades of the Rector's Tower, the Central Library and the Olympic University Stadium, the works of the so-called three greats of Mexican muralism: David Alfaro Siqueiros, Juan O'Gorman and Diego Rivera, look imposing, with different compositions, different ways of thinking, reliefs and materials. The largest mural of all time, the jewel in the crown, made by the architect and painter Juan O'Gorman, embellishes the Central Library; its four sides, four thousand square meters, are completely covered with natural stones, 10 thousand colors and resistant to the elements, from all the states of the country.
Coyoacan
  • 30m
Coyoacán represents: “place of those who have or possess coyotes”, from three Nahuatl words: coyotl (coyote), hua (possession) and can (place). The Center of Coyoacán has been for many years a meeting place and refuge for artists, philosophers, writers and aristocrats. Its streets are full of stories because its constitution is woven together with the construction of Mexico City, the capital of this beautiful country.
Parroquia San Juan Bautista
  • 30m
Just eight years after the conquest, Hernán Cortés generously decided to grant a fairly large plot of land to a group of Franciscan friars. According to the chronicler Salvador Novo, this property consisted of a cement floor, a facade of red quarry, walls of carved volcanic stone and even a shrine decorated with gold plate.
Coyoacan Market
  • 20m
The Coyoacán Market is one of the most popular places to stop in Coyoacán. Just a short walk from the Frida Kahlo or Leon Trotsky museums, it is a colorful and great place to eat. People end up at the Coyoacán Market after a trip to one of the museums, and on weekends when downtown Coyoacán is packed with strollers and their guests.
Museo Frida Kahlo
  • 30m
  • Admission ticket not included
Frida Kahlo spent most of her life here, first with her family and, years later, alongside Diego Rivera. Interesting national and foreign figures stayed here, attracted by the magnetism of both painters. Frida and Diego wanted to leave their house as a museum for all Mexicans to enjoy. After the painter's death, the couple's friend, the museographer and poet Carlos Pellicer, planned the museography. Since its inauguration in July 1958, the Casa Azul and its gardens have exhibited personal objects and paintings by both artists, popular art, pre-Columbian sculptures, photographs, documents, books and furniture that formed the environment that inspired Frida to create.
Centro Historico
  • 1h
After finishing the whole experience, it's time to return to the starting point in downtown Mexico City. Relax, rest and reflect, what did this tour leave you with?
