Itinerary
We will pick you up at your hotel in Puno at the time you have chosen and take the transoceanic road Puno-Moquegua towards the archaeological complex of Cutimbo. Upon arrival, we will observe that the site is located on two plateaus, crowned by ancient stone constructions.
Cutimbo was occupied for several centuries, not only by the Incas but also by other civilizations up to 8000 years old, such as the Lupaca or the Qolla. Its strategic location may have been the reason why this place was so highly valued by these pre-Columbian cultures.
We will visit the different buildings of Cutimbo, where we will observe several chulpas or funerary monuments scattered throughout the plateau. The chulpas come in all sizes and shapes: circular, square, rectangular…. This demonstrates the architectural richness of the cultures that inhabited this area of Peru.
As we walk among the constructions and monuments, we will notice that some of them hide enigmatic figures of animals such as monkeys, felines or snakes. We will discover what the experts theories have about them!
We will also see the ushno or ceremonial temple, located in the central part of the plateau and built with volcanic rock, and the cremation altar, where calcined bones of humans and animals were found.
Finally, after this tour of the Cutimbo ruins, we will return to Puno.
