What you can expect
Day 1: Fes – Ifrane – Azrou Cedar Forest – Midelt – Ziz Oasis – Merzouga Desert:
Your adventure begins at 7:45 AM with a prompt pick-up from your hotel or the
nearest meeting point in Fes. From there, we head south, descending through the
scenic Middle Atlas Mountains en route to the enchanting Sahara.
Our first stop will be in Ifrane, often dubbed the Switzerland of Morocco due to its
clean streets, alpine-style architecture, and pleasant climate. You’ll have some free
time to stroll through the town and snap photos, including one with the iconic
stone lion statue.
Next, we’ll drive to the cedar forests of Azrou, home to playful Barbary macaque
monkeys. Here, you can interact with the monkeys ( however please be carefull)
and enjoy the crisp mountain air.
Continuing our journey through lush landscapes, rocky cliffs, and charming Berber villages, we’ll arrive in Midelt for a relaxing lunch break nestled between the Middle and High Atlas ranges ( Lunch is not included but a restaurant is suggested & it is optional)
After lunch, we drive through the Ziz River down into the impressive Ziz Valley, dotted with date palm groves and fortified villages.
By late afternoon, we arrive in Merzouga, on the edge of the vast Erg Chebbi dunes. Depending on timing, we may relax at a local Kasbah before beginning your camel trekking adventure.
As you ride across the dunes (approx. 50 minutes), watch the golden sands light up under the setting sun.
Upon reaching the desert camp, you’ll check into your tent and enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner. Later, gather around the campfire under the stars and enjoy Saharian music played by locals to your first day.
Stay overnight in your choice of a shared tent for up 4 people or , private standard tent with ensuite bathroom, or private luxury tent with ensuite bathroom.
Day 2: Merzouga - Tafilalte - Fes
Wake early and walk across the dunes to watch the sunrise from just behind the Massive Dunes. You can go back to your tent to freshen up and get ready for breakfast. Then get ready for the drive back to Fes and enjoy the passing by attractions.
Day 2: Merzouga – Marrakech
Start your day early with a peaceful walk on the Sahara dunes and enjoy a stunning desert sunrise. After breakfast at the camp and time to freshen up, we’ll begin the scenic drive to Marrakech.
The route passes through the “Road of a Thousand Kasbahs,” Berber villages, and the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n'Tichka Pass. The journey will be a direct transfer with fewer stops for lunch and bathroom breaks. Arrival in Marrakech is around 8 to 9 PM, more or less depending the traffic and stops made along the way.
For the return to Marrakech option, the drive is long takes around 10 hours. For a more relaxed pace and extra stops, the 3- or 4-day option is recommended.
