Overview

My name is Owen and I would like to tell you why my tour of the beautiful Boyne Valley is unique.

I am a fully qualified tour guide who lives with my family in a town called Drogheda, located at the heart of the Boyne Valley. My local knowledge of the area gives me a unique advantage as a tour guide.

I have a passion for storytelling and I use this to make the history and heritage of the sites in the Boyle Valley come alive, so that my guests can fully understand and appreciate our wonderful past.

My Private tour is luxury and bespoke.

Guests are chauffeured throughout the Boyne Valley in my beautiful jaguar limousine. An advantage of a private tour is that it is flexible. We can go at a pace that suits our guests and can change the itinerary if needs be.

After spending a great day together our guests will be chauffeured to their hotel. We will have only spent a short time together but I hope they will have enjoyed that time and have some wonderful memories that last a lifetime.

Activity itinerary

Hill of Tara
  • 45m
The Hill of Tara was once the ancient seat of the High Kings of Ireland, and today the series of Neolithic burial mounds and tombs offer stunning views across County Meath. As one of the most historic and mythical places in Ireland, a trip to this beautiful area is sure to be an eye-opening experience. This is your chance to explore the archaeological sites, take in the breathtaking views of the mountains of Mourne and learn about the Celtic rituals which stretch back into early Christianity.
Hill of Slane
  • 45m
Located in County Meath, this site is historically significant for both its ancient and Christian heritage. The site was associated with Sláine mac Dela, a legendary Fir Bolg king who was believed to be buried there. Its prominence grew in the early 5th century when Saint Patrick is said to have lit a Paschal fire on the hill, defying the pagan High King of Tara and marking the introduction of Christianity to Ireland. The hill later housed a monastery, founded by St. Erc, and remains of a church and tower. Today, it symbolizes Ireland’s religious and cultural history.
Bective Abbey
  • 45m
founded in 1147 in County Meath, this site is a well-preserved Cistercian monastery. Known for its picturesque ruins, including a cloister and chapter house, it reflects medieval monastic life. The abbey’s tranquil setting and historical significance make it a popular site for visitors and history enthusiasts.
Trim Castle
  • 45m
  • Admission ticket not included
Few places in Ireland contain more medieval buildings than the heritage town of Trim, once the medieval capital of Ireland. Trim Castle is the largest Anglo-Norman castle in Ireland, and with its monumental three-story keep and 20-sided tower, it is a truly impressive symbol of Norman glory. Hugh de Lacy and his successors took 30 years to build it. The castle is also known as King John’s Castle. When he visited the town he preferred to stay in his tent on the other side of the river. Today, visitors are able to look down into the interior of the keep via modern walkways which weave their way through this vast castle. Other medieval sites in Trim include St. Mary`s Abbey - a Franciscan abbey built in 1368 -, and Ireland`s oldest bridge, standing strong since the early 13th Century. Admission ticket to Trim Castle cost €5 and can be purchased on arrival.
