Our first single-night canoe trip, launched in recognition of the phenomenal stargazing this area is renowned for! The interpretation and programming of this trip will focus on the night sky, and could include cultural interpretations of constellations, night sky photography and mythology.
No experience is necessary, minimal to no portaging, suitable for everyone.
Our Dark Sky Canoe Trip will begin with a rendezvous at our headquarters at Jake's Landing. We'll repack your items in our waterproofs, have a quick lunch (we provide this!) and then take off into the wilderness.
Our guide will have a night sky tool kit packed with items to help you deepen your understanding of our galaxy, including some mind bending facts about our universe. Our bag of tricks will combine modern technology and ancient myths and lore– but don't worry, there won't be any galactic powerpoint presentations in the backcountry.
This trip isn't a backcountry slog- our main focus is time spent at camp, so this is especially perfect for young families or folks who have an interest in astronomy and want to relax. I highly recommend this trip if you have young children!
Don't worry, we will provide you with clean drinking water (and one of our cool Whynot Adventure 1000ml/32oz water bottles), we won't make you share a tent with a stranger, the bugs are never so bad you won't have fun (July/August and September have little to no bugs!), and there are private outhouses at all the sites. Oh, and we take coffee seriously. It’s french press in the backcountry, with a locally roasted bean. We grind at the campsite for freshness
