【About this tour】
MOA Museum of Art in Atami, a resort located 2 hours by car or 45 minutes by Shinkansen Kodama from Tokyo, is hosting a limited-time “Kogei (Craft) Dining” event. During this period, the museum will feature a must-see special exhibition of the year: Ogata Kôrin's Opus Magnum: Red and White Plum Blossoms meets Wing God and Thunder God.You can enjoy a rare display of two masterpieces by Ogata Kôrin, a prominent Rinpa school artist of the Edo period, on show together for the first time in 39 years.
The “Kogei Dining” experience focuses on the theme of “experiencing” Japanese traditional crafts. After enjoying a meal (Japanese or French cuisine) served on handcrafted tableware by artists, including Living National Treasures, guests will move to the Noh theater on the grounds to watch a special dance performance by Tamasaburo Bando, a Living National Treasure, from front-row seats. There will also be an exhibition and sale of craft artworks.
From the museum located on a hill in Atami, you can enjoy breathtaking views of Izu Oshima island and Hatsushima island. The garden on the grounds also offers beautiful autumn foliage. This luxurious day-trip plan from Tokyo allows you to experience Japan through its natural beauty, world-class Japanese art, traditional craft tableware gastronomy, and traditional Japanese dance.
