Cappadocia is not a city or a province. Cappadocia was the name of a region covering a wide geography up to the Amanos Mountains during the Persian period. Today, however, it is the name of a region that includes only five provinces. These are Nevşehir, Niğde, Kayseri, Kırşehir and Aksaray.
Rocky Cappadocia is a narrower region covering the provinces of Nevşehir, such as Göreme, Ürgüp, Avanos and Uçhisar. It was formed when volcanic mountains in the provinces of Kayseri, Niğde and Aksaray became active about 12 million years ago.
Over time, the lava from these volcanic mountains dried up the inner sea of Cappadocia and the tuff layer began to accumulate and was covered with cooled hard rocks called basalt. Over time, the basalt-covered grass rocks eroded by the effects of wind, rain and rivers turn into fairy chimneys. Fairy chimneys with no basalt on them turn into valleys due to erosion. And it offers you the opportunity to take an exciting ATV tour in these magnificent valleys.
