Our first stop will be the birth place of Christianity, Canterbury Cathedral. 1,400 years in the making.
England's First Cathedral
Founded by St Augustine in 597 AD, Canterbury Cathedral is a unique place of worship, a major pilgrimage destination, a masterpiece of art and architecture, and one of the UK's most-visited historic sites.
Often referred to as ‘England in stone', the Cathedral has been at the centre of momentous events and upheavals. It is the Mother Church of the worldwide Anglican Communion, seat of the Archbishop of Canterbury, UNESCO World Heritage Site, and resting place of royalty and saints.
Explore the markings of builders, staff and visitors. The alterations to architecture show the development of the church, the masons marks show where they laboured, and the markings made by visitors, scratches of ‘medieval graffiti’, give some insight to those that have walked this way before, leaving an anonymous notation in history.
Our second stop is the magnificent and one of the most beautiful castle in England, The Leeds Castle.
Leeds Castle is a spectacular setting for a family day out, transporting you back in time through the Norman, medieval and Tudor periods. Discover amazing artefacts and lavish interiors, learning about how noblemen once lived in centuries past. Aspiring knights can have run of the Squires’ Court and Knights’ Realm playgrounds, before navigating their way through the tricky maze.
Our third stop is the fortress called Dover Castle. Dover Castle is a medieval castle in Dover, Kent, England and is Grade I listed. It was founded in the 11th century and has been described as the “Key to England” due to its defensive significance throughout history.
Dover Castle is one of the largest castles in England, proudly standing on top of the White Cliffs, overlooking busy port of Dover. The castle guards the shortest crossing point to continental Europe.
The most iconic of all English fortresses commanding the gateway to the realm for nine centuries. Climb the Great Tower, meet the characters and immerse yourself in vivid medieval interiors. Then delve deep within Dover's White Cliffs to witness the drama in the Secret Wartime Tunnels.
And finally the White cliff of Dover. The chalk cliffs at Dover have one of the most accessible and complete records of the story of chalk formation. Your tour ends back at your hotel.
