What you can expect

Meet at 8:30 am at Marseille's Saint Charles train station to catch the train to Arles. The journey takes approximately 1 hour.

Our first stop is the Roman Amphitheatre, known as the Arena of Arles. Built in the 1st century AD, it is one of the best-preserved Roman amphitheatres in the world. Imagine the gladiator games and spectacles that once took place here as you walk through its ancient arches.

Next, we'll visit the ancient Roman Theatre, which dates back to the 1st century BC. Marvel at its impressive stage and seating area, and take in the stunning views of the city from the top.

Our tour wouldn't be complete without a visit to the Saint-Trophime Church, a U.N.E.S..C.O World Heritage site. Admire the stunning Romanesque architecture and the intricate portal sculptures that showcase biblical scenes.

As we venture outside the town, we'll visit the Alyscamps, an ancient Roman necropolis that inspired many artists, including Van Gogh. The rows of ancient sarcophagi create a unique and evocative atmosphere.

We'll also explore the charming Old Town, where you'll find narrow medieval streets, charming squares, and quaint shops selling local crafts and products. And have free time to lunch.

As we walk through the picturesque streets of Arles, you'll notice the influence of Vincent van Gogh, who lived and painted here in the late 19th century. Follow in the artist's footsteps as we visit some of the locations that inspired his famous works, such as the Yellow Café and the Langlois Bridge.

That concludes our city tour of Arles. We hope you've enjoyed discovering the rich history and artistic heritage of this fascinating town. Thank you for joining us, and we wish you a wonderful time exploring the rest of Arles!
