What you can expect

Escape the buzz of the capital and visit 2 notable sites in Turkey—Gallipoli and Troy. Learn about the brutal events of World War I at the Gallipoli battlefields, visit poignant memorial sites, and tour the historically significant city of Troy. Along the way, enjoy free time to explore as you wish.

Day 1: Gallipoli Start your 2-day trip with a scenic drive through Turkey to Gallipoli, where The Gallipoli Campaign—an infamous failed attack by the Allies in World War I—took place. On a walking tour, gain insight into the key battles, explore the channels of the Nek, and see touching memorials including Brighton Beach, the Lone Pine Australian Memorial, and ANZAC Cove.

Free time to explore the site as you wish and have lunch at Eceabat. By sunset, arrive at your hotel in Canakkale with the evening to spend at your leisure.

Day 2: Troy The next day takes you to the city of Troy—one of the most famous archaeological sites in the world. As you wander through the city, marvel at the ancient ruins of the various cities from Troy I-Troy IX, see current excavations in progress, and learn about the iconic wooden Trojan Horse which symbolizes the town.

Learn about the development of the area and hear stories of the Bronze Age and the mythical Trojan War. During the afternoon in Canakkale, sightsee at your own pace and perhaps visit the Archaeological and Naval museums or simply unwind at a local café before returning to Istanbul.
