Explore the historic city of Gyeongju with an overnight trip to explore the sights and monuments of one of Korea's ancient capitals. From the grand Buddhist statue at the Seokguram Grotto to the millennia-old tombs at Tumuli Park, you can explore the region's remarkable sights and cultural history.
Day 1 An early-morning pickup takes you to Seoul Station for a convenient express train to Gyeongju. Once you arrive in the ancient city, meet your guide and pay a visit to the Bulguksa Temple complex on the slopes of Mount Toham. Built in 774, this ancient complex includes a monumental statue of the Buddha looking at the sea from the nearby Seokguram Grotto.
Next, visit Tumuli Park, named for the 23 burial mounds containing tombs for the Silla dynasty monarchs and family members who ruled over much of Korea for nearly 1,000 years. Get a look at some of the fabulous treasures from these tombs at the Gyeongju National Museum, your last stop of the day before you transfer to your local hotel.
Day 2 After breakfast, you have the morning free to explore the sights of the city on your own. In the afternoon, the train whisks you back across the country for your return trip to Seoul Station.
