Truro

Beaches extending for miles, fantastic views and interesting history set this coastal community apart from others.

Truro is a popular location because of its beaches, Cape Cod vistas and stories behind its landmarks and scenery. Life here revolves around the beach. Join other travelers relaxing on beguiling ocean shores.

Go to Ballston Beach to surf the waves or observe others surfing. Admire the sand dunes bordering the beach and enjoy shoreline walks. Other popular beach destinations include Corn Hill Beach, which was named after the spot where the Pilgrims discovered corn after arriving in the New World. This beach sits on a bay so you can relax and watch the boats go by. The water here is neither too cold nor too wild, making it perfect for swimmers.

For a more secluded and quieter beach experience, stop at Long Nook Beach. This isolated beach is known for its remote location and is banked by huge sand dunes. Sit on the sands and watch the waves roll in or get your thrills by boogie boarding. Expect to see people tanning in the nude at this clothing-optional beach.

Head to Pamet River to explore more of Truro’s natural beauty. Kayak around and look for local and migrating birds. Walk the Pamet Cranberry Bog Trail to see where the cranberries that were once key to local industry were grown. The trail is only about 0.5 mile (800 meters) long, so it won’t take long to complete.

Call into the Cobb Archive to learn about the town’s history. Run by the Truro Historical Society, the archive contains important documents concerning the town. Arrange a visit to see maps, photography and personal items that once belonged to town residents. The small building it is in was once the town library, adding another layer of history to the archive.

Reach Truro in about a 2-hour drive from Boston Logan International Airport or 20 minutes from Provincetown Municipal Airport. Buses link the town to Boston Logan and connect it to other places on Cape Cod.
