Zell am See-Kaprun is a picturesque outdoor region in the Austrian Alps. Enjoy the area’s perfect blend of ski slopes, summer meadows, family activities and a beautifully picturesque environment of lakes, mountains and even a glacier.
Spend days skiing 85 miles (138 kilometers) of slopes between the three mountains of Schmittenhöhe, Kitzsteinhorn and the Maiskogel family mountain. Skiing and boarding range from championship runs that even professionals find challenging to beginner and family slopes for unending fun. The season is long, with opportunities to ski the Kitzsteinhorn glacier for 10 months of the year. Purchase single-day tickets or multi-day passes that are valid for all lifts and cable cars in Zell am See and Kaprun.
Take the cable car from the center of Zell am See up the Schmittenhöhe, a 6,453-foot (1,967-meter) peak. The view from the top is one of the best in the Kitzbühel Alps, encompassing the Grossglockner and Tauern granite ranges to the south and west as well as the northern limestone ranges. Four other cable-car lines run up the mountain and are used by winter skiers and summer hikers and bikers.
In winter or summer, enjoy the views from the top of Mount Kitzsteinhorn, including the Gipfelwelt 3000 experience at more than 9,800 feet (3,000 meters) of elevation. In the valley, swim, sail, windsurf or kayak in gorgeous Lake Zell’s bright blue alpine waters.
Visit the 12th-century Kaprun Castle to appreciate its ancient past during July’s Medieval Festival. Enjoy a Christmas market as well as an Irish Paddy Festival in March.
Book accommodations online at one of nearly 200 accommodations that offer the Zell am See-Kaprun Summer Card. Use the card from mid-May to mid-October for free or discounted access to pools, beaches, cable cars, buses and many sites across the region.
