Beach, mountains, architecture and history all come together to make Zarautz a spectacular tourist destination for all tastes.

Zarautz is a town located in the province of Gipuzkoa and was founded by King Fernando III of Castile in 1237. One curious fact about this coastal area is that its population used to be dedicated mostly to whale fishing until the trade disappeared in the Bay of Biscay. You should also take advantage of our holiday offers to Zarautz to discover another of the most interesting aspects related to the town: it’s said that it was in these shipyards where the Nao Victoria was built, the first ship to sail around the world.

The main tourist attraction here, though, is the beach. Spanning one and a half miles, it is the longest in the Basque Country, and is commonly known as the “Queen of beaches”, as Queen Isabel II of Spain chose it as her summer residence, leading to an increase in tourism in the 19th century. If you’re a lover of surf, you’ll know that this destination is perfect for the sport, as its waves are world famous.

If you’re interested in nature, you’re definitely in the right place as, thanks to our cheap trips to Zarautz, you can take in the beauty of the Iñurritza Protected Biotope. Although most of the area is made up of a golf course, there is also a path leading to the top of the spectacular Mount Talaimendi.

In addition to enjoying the surrounding nature, the local architecture is also worth a stop on the way, so make the most of our package deals to Zarautz and take a stroll through the old town. There you’ll find the two most important buildings: the Gothic church of Santa María la Real and Torre Zarautz. Finally, you should also visit Palacio de Narros, the residence of Queen Isabel II located next to the beach.

This town has something for all tourists, so don’t miss our deals for trips to Zarautz, one of the hidden treasures of the Spanish Basque Country.
