We got the worst room ever!
Nothing was right. Everything was broken. Bad attitude. Not welcoming. Filthy place. Dirt everywhere. Mosquitos. No hot water. No tv. No wifi. No refrigerator. Very low standard not only for the price. Don't be fooled by the central location. Not recommended for westerners.

Abuso Inn was an accurate representation of historic Zanzibar. This family-run place felt like home to me. It was extremely touching to receive hospitality that was not informal and stiff like other commercialized locations. The staff and owners at Abuso Inn made each individual guest feel special. I strongly recommend it.

I was a little worried when I first arrived but very quickly we fell in love with the property and the staff. It is very rustic and beautiful with very friendly staff. The roof terrace is amazing. Everything is basic but for the price its very good value.

I was generally very pleased. A couple of concerns: 1. the aircon was not up to the challenge of March weather; 2. It would have been nice, especially with the poor air conditioning, to have bottled water in the room; 3. the mattress was a bit firm for my preference; 4. The wifi was too slow to be of any value. I had to use phone data exclusively.
The hotel and rooms were spotlessly clean, the staff friendly and helpful.

Abuso Inn is in a great location, near the beach (pretty polluted for swimming, though lots of locals do), walking distance to anywhere you want to go, and to many places to eat. Nice and clean, a bit of mold in the shower, but in humid, tropical places that's really hard to keep ahead of. As far as toiletries, soap only. You may need to ask at the desk if you need a hairdryer or iron, there was none in the room. A/C was great! Staff was helpful and friendly.

Great staff
Posted 7 Aug 2018 on HotelsI really enjoyed the Abuso Inn. It's convenient to walk to anything you want to do, the price is good, and the service is exceptional. I arrived after midnight, and they were still expecting me, quickly showing me to my room and telling me I could complete the check-in process after some rest. The breakfast was good, the staff were very friendly, and they offered to let me store my suitcase at the front desk/go on an excursion/then let me use the shower before going to the airport at night on the day I left. Great service.

Excellent family-run hotel in Stone Town
Posted 18 Jul 2018 on HotelsWe had a wonderful stay at Abuso Inn. It is reasonably priced, roomy, and very well located--right on the edge of Stone Town which allows for easy access to both transportation and to the winding lanes of the old city. Our room was large with comfortable beds. The hotel also has lots of shared lounge space outside the rooms and a beautiful rooftop breakfast area with an impressive sea view. The hotel serves a full breakfast of eggs, western-style bread, and fresh fruits as well as local hot dishes (beans, stews, vegetables, etc.) and freshly made local breads--chapatis, etc. The hotel is family run, and service is excellent. The owner and his son were friendly and attentive to all our needs. We always felt they truly wanted our stay to be comfortable and hassle free. While other, more expensive hotels may have more amenities (we stayed in four different hotels during our time in Dar and Zanzibar), we were most comfortable in Abuso Inn because of the generosity and care exhibited by the family.
