Property is dated. Onsen was not pleasant. There are two onsens. The older one has a pebble bottom that was terrible to walk on.

Excellent place to stay! Great views and a true traditional Japanese Ryokan. The garden is beautiful and the staff is super friendly. The building is quite old and full of history which adds to the charm. Would stay again.

I booked 3 rooms this time. One of the rooms was dirty, toilet smells very bad, and a tea cup still contain residual tea, probably from previous guests. Other than that, the location was great to explore around Yoshinoyama.

Very helpful friendly service. Food was excellent and not excessive in abundance as at some Royokan. Rooms were wonderful.

Authentic Japanese experience

Posted 1 Mar 2018
We wanted to stay in a Ryokan with a Japanese dinner & hot spring. There were many top moments during our stay: our shoe storage space had our name on it, our private dining room was also marked with our name, hot spring was located on a spa terasse and I had the most beautiful view to the sunset while lying in the hot spring alone. We were very well taken care of. A very simple authentic Japanese experience, which will linger on in our minds for a long time. The food was home-cooked, something I assume the families would eat at home. One night stay was just good, as then we could experience all this, including wearing the yukatas and slipperd, which is also an experience.

An unforgettable Japanese experience!

Posted 28 May 2017 on Hotels
If you're looking for an authentic, traditional experience, you need to stay here. The ryokan is nestled in a forested mountaintop surrounded by traditional Japanese gardens and beautiful temples. The ryokan itself is a traditional Japanese inn with hot spring baths, tatami matted floors and extravagant Japanese meals served in your own private dining room. Our room was large with a private bath overlooking a Buddhist temple. I found it uncomfortable to sleep on the floor on futon mats, but my husband and 9 year-old daughter were quite comfortable. I ended up using extra mats that were stored in our closet. Overall, we have an unforgettable experience. Most of it was due to our lovely hostess, always dressed in beautiful kimonos and so very sweet. She made us feel like family. She enjoyed preparing extravagant meals for us. The food was very traditional. It included egg omelettes, sushi, a wide variety of fish, rice, soups, salads and other foods that were foreign to us, but we tasted everything even if it looked strange. I'd definitely stay here again.
