Lovely quirky hotel. Rooms arw dark but thats the decor and ambience.

Quirky Pub with rooms, lots of little eating area's and a large beer garden, bedroom was clean and tidy set just inside the city walls. Breakfast was freshly made and excellent and the food menu was varied and reasonable.
Bar area is a little small and fills up at busy times , apart from that no other issues.

We loved the view outside our window of the old city gate, it was so close we felt we could reach out the window and touch it!. The room was comfortable and the staff helpful. Would recommend for an atmospheric stay.

What a great location right inside the city wall. Convenient parking near the location and great staff and loved the beer garden.

Room was fine, though bathroom had a smell of damp in it. Location was great for city centre but it was really noisy. Bin wagon at 5am outside room, street sweeper at 6am, bottle bank at 7am!

So, so disappointed! Thought it would be a treat to stay in this old charming building. The room was so small we had to crawl across the bed to sleep and bathroom was down a long dark hallway. Very dark decor and poor lighting. The worst part was the NOISE! On a main street just inside the old Roman gate where the party crowd congregate. Horrible noises from garbage collectors and those stocking the bar rolling and banging metal kegs in the wee hours. While convenient to the old city, resist the temptation to stay here, I am so sorry to say.

A unique hotel in York. Great location close to The Minster, the Wall, the Shambles and the Art Gallery. Good restaurant on site but also many other dining options nearby.
