The hotel, food, staff and interior decor was great, however, we stayed with family and had 2 rooms on the ground floor. Our room was 108 and was fine apart from the tv being sitting too low on a cabinet to watch in bed. The bathroom extractor fan did not work but this did not spoil our stay. Room 109 where my mother stayed had an awful view of what I can only describe as old furniture, chairs bicycles and overgrown vegetation feet away from the window. This was visible due to the 6 foot fence panel being missing and looked like it had been missing for sometime. Not the view one would expect to see when traveling to the Yorkshire Dales. Just a shame I’m unable to upload a few photos showing this dumping site.

This little gem is just perfect distance from York centre. Uber taxi, bus and park and ride, gives easy access to everywhere. Great rooms, lovely building, great staff. Definitely will stay again

Old property been given a lock of paint and rebranded under the Mercure brand. Fixtures and fittings in room reminiscent of 1970s and this is not by design. Broken taps and drain cap in bath. Mouldy shower taps. Broken tiles and old hair in bathroom. We will not be staying here again and will not be staying with Mercure brand ever again.

Lovely Majestic welcoming hotel with very helpful, friendly staff. Wide clear corridor access to large, well thought out disability rooms. Comfortable large lounge bar area with great ambience. Dog friendly with large enclosed lawns. Easy parking. We will definitely be going here again.

On main road so expect noise didn’t worry us. Hotel is old so a bit shabby and outdated. No towel rack in room, so doing green thing and not changing towels daily ended up with wet towels next day for shower. Shower over bath. Cold shower second day blamed on tour bus group leaving that morning, there system should be able to cope. Very convenient bus to York city just across the road and only 2 pounds per adult, more convenient and cheaper than driving car in.

Had a great stay overnight with my wife and our Guide Dog made very welcome when we arrived. Then in the morning we went to have breakfast, the young man did not understand the law on service dogs the restaurant manager was called he also did not Know the law we showed him a copy of the discrimination laws which we always carry with us , we were told we could sit in the lobby or they might let us in a side room. What was up until then a very enjoyable stay , was spoiled by being treated like a second class citzen. Please train your staff on the laws of England reguarding Service Dogs, as the incident caused my wife great stress and left her feeling very unhappy so much so that the day we had planned to visit York was cancelled and we just went home

Although the property is getting a bit tired, it was very clean and functional. The parking was brilliant and so many spaces made it easy to park. Being a short cab ride from York centre made it very handy, I would use it again no problem. Oh the food was great and really good quality. But the thing that shone like a bright star was the staff. I did not request an accessible room as one was already allocated but was on the old side of the hotel and using the stairs was out of the question. Receptionist was so helpful at allocating a ground floor room, only 2 rooms have walk in showers so at least I have this information for my next visit.

We loved our stay here. The hotel was really lovely, fabulous value for money but it was all the staff who made it an outstanding stay. So friendly, happy and really appeared to enjoy helping their guests. The member of staff on reception was a real asset.
