You get what you pay for and this was merely a place to sleep so it was perfect. Great staff and on the weekend they provided complimentary dinner and breakfast which was a welcome surprise. Very clean with a lovely team.
We stayed one night. The staff were super friendly and helpful the room was not new, but spacious enough, Japanese style. Onsen was clean and uncrowded with all necessary amenities.
The property is a bit dated but well maintained, kept clean and in order. It worked out for our family looking for a relaxed and easygoing stay. When we walked for a morning stroll, we caught a beautiful and clear view of Mt Fuji. With rental car, we had access to a selection of restaurants, shops, and activities within the Lake Yamanakako area. But 7/11 is also just a few minute walk and the hotel offers breakfast and dinner for an affordable price. We would stay here again!

I am really suprised how much I liked this hotel. It's quite old and rooms need a proper refresh, however it was really clean and spacious. Traditional style was a great experience! (There is an instruction in the room how to do the futon).
Staff doesn't speak English very well, however I was able to communicate with them enough, so it wasn't an issue at all. They also have printed papers with the most important details in English. To sum up, they were really nice and helpful.
Hotel is located next to the bus station, where there are buses to popular towns around Fuji. Generally, having a car would be a plus, however I only used the public transport and can say that's doable (local commute and express busses to Mishima, Tokyo, Gotemba etc.). It's a calm place (I was there in Dec 25), that is definitely not as crowded as e.g. Fujikawaguchiko nearby.
I have to also mention about the hotel's location and its views that are really amazing. Lake Yamanakako is sooooo beautiful. Really, there is no need to go to more touristic places to see wonderful things. There are planty of places around to hike and of course to do great photos of mount Fuji. To sum up, I highly recommend this hotel!
A different experience to be able to experience Japanese culture. At first I was scared but then I gave myself the opportunity and the truth is I loved it. The staff is very helpful and they cater to all our needs. I recommend this place.
We were only here for one night so we didn’t get experience the public bath. But the service was extremely great. The room was exactly what we wanted to experience…Japanese style but yet we still have our private bath and shower. I will definitely recommend to others. Only hope we can wake up to see the fuji Mountain view but we didn’t cuz of my room’s location I’m guessing. Will definitely return.

It's like staying with your elderly, bachelor uncle whom you have been visiting since childhood - there is a very, very slight musty smell about the spacious and old-fashioned room, the retro room heater and the same VCR player is still there after all these years (as well as the stain you accidentally put on his papered doors as a child).
But, you love this uncle because he is full of mischief and fun, you feel at home, and if you go for the breakfast option, it proudly includes fresh eggs from local chickens in the area.
Don't bother with clinical impersonal places like APA, etc. The staff here will welcome you like family so bring a big group of friends and lots of sake to really enjoy this place.
If you’re going to Mt Fuji, then try this side of the mountain and stay at this place. This ryoken (traditional Japanese Inn) has everything a ryoken would typically have, but also an onsen on the first floor. Having a bath in the onsen after seeing Lake Yamanaka and Mt Fuji on your front steps is something I'll never forget, and cant wait to experience again. One caveat is that the amenities in the room are small, but not really an issue. As for entertainment or good places, you’ll have to go around the area - there is a conbini (convenience store) around, but also a dining area with several restaurants. We tried a couple and they were great! Be prepared though for the lack of english speakers in this area. Honestly it's not an issue, just use the tools at hand to communicate and you’ll be fine! I known I'll be staying here again in the future!
Located across the road from the lake, friendly staff.
Spacious room for 2 futons.
Onsen is lovely.
Relaxing environment that makes people for few more days
Simple ryokan-style hotel. Made for a comfortable stay at Yamanakako. Friendly and helpful staff, as well as free coffee daily, added to the pleasant experience.
This was an impromptu 1-night stay that I enjoyed very much. Very convenient to take the bus from Shinjuku, about 2.5 hours, and the bus stop is directly across the street from the hotel. I booked a tatami room, and we enjoyed the onsen on the property.
