a hotel with character and charm

Posted 1 Mar 2019 on Hotels
This is a traditional house, very nicely renovated. The best thing is the delightful terrace with a lovely view. This is where you have a very nice, very well presented breakfast. We were rather disappointed with our room. Although spacious it was far from luxurious and we had problems with the plumbing twice in 9 nights. Yaiza is a very quiet little town and for a better choice of restaurants it is easy to drive to El Golfo or Playa Quemada, both by the sea.

Try self catering instead

Fortunately we arrived early when staff were around, but the staff were unable to make our room secure because the door could not be locked. I pointed this out to staff immediately but nothing was done about it during the 3 days of our stay. One of the windows could not be closed because it seemed that the window did not fit in the frame. There was a second window with a handle which stuck out and could not be reached without standing on a chair/stool. As a result the curtains which drew across both windows were torn away from the rail fixings, and the curtains just looked a mess. We were offered a glass of wine to dine at the hotel evening dining room situated about 2 km away, so we had to drive. I chose hake at 13 euros, but was told this was not availabole but some fresh fish was available at 18 euros. When I got this so called fresh fish I thought it was tuna, being in rectangular chunks, and not at all like fresh fish. The waiter service was slow, and the bill was confusing because it appeared that tax had been added on when the menu said tax was included. There was no cooked breakfast available at Hilario, which is one of the things I appreciate normally from staying in a hotel or bed and breakfast. Casa de Hilario seemed to me to be rather neglected, the underdog in the joint enterprise. A puddle of rainwater formed outside our front door. The car parking space was awkward, with a low stone roundabout behind it so that I feared running into this when reversing out .

Hi Mr. Peter, I am going to try to explain you all, as I had to explain you also about the restaurant bill but seems you dont understand that taxes must be show separetly but they are include in the price of the menu. Your room had two doors to acces the first acces door looked perfectly so it was secure the room, the second one we fixes but it takes a few days to make the speccial locked for hotels and you had a short stay. Hilario has no restaurant its only bed and breakfast, but we invite you for free two glasses of wine at a restaurant in town taht is independent from Casa de Hilario so does not make any sence your report od the restaurant at the Hotel report, anyway I must say people loves it and also its fresh fish. Also the parking we offer you was a free parking inside the Hotel next to your room for your comfort, people is so happy of this service they are spacious enoughf If you did not one to used you could leave the car outside the Hotel, it seems you are not very confident driving cars. Water when it rains it makes the outdoors weet it never make a puddle Mr. Peter!!! PLease if you are disconformed with life don´t travel arround.... All the best!!!

Quality service

Posted 14 Apr 2018 on Hotels
The pool at the Hilario had a temporary problem Jose offered us the opportunity to chose between Hilario and Casa del Yaiza on the other side of town. We did get a tour of Hilario and it looked excellent. On the end we opted for Casa del Yaiza but it was a marginal decision based on the availability of the pool we we didn’t use due to inclement weather. We were very impressed with the quality of service offered to offer the change without us even suggesting it and that quality of service continued at the Casa del Yaiza 5 stars from me all round !

An oasis away from the touristic crowd

Posted 8 Dec 2014
It's an extremely beautiful guesthouse. Jose the owner creates a wonderful experience for the guests with the colours of the rooms, palm trees in the garden and attention to your needs. Be sure to let him know when you arrive as the reception might not be open all times. The best way to see the island is via a car even if you stay in the touristic places as that only has a beach, one of many. Plus the attractions are interspersed all over the island Getting back to the review, I had such a wonderful time and will definitely go back to casa de hilario some day.

Lovely peaceful location.

Pros: Lovely room,peaceful location.
Cons: Maybe a fridge in the room.
Location: Yaiza is a lovely village with 3 good restaurants.Timanfaya NP,El Golfo, the vineyards and the beaches of the south all very easy to get to.
We stayed here for the last 3 nights of our holiday after spending the first week in a villa. It was a lovely surprise when we arrived. We had a lovely room(3) with a good WiFi signal. It's a beautiful building.Breakfast was good and it was lovely to eat outside on the terrace with views of the hills. You don't see the staff really but it's so peaceful we didn't care. There's a superb bodega opposite which does very good food. We'd go back in a flash!
