Amble along the well-kept paths of these landscape gardens and visit some of the region’s most stunning palaces and castles.

Bergpark Wilhelmshoehe is a vast and scenic park containing some of the most majestic structures in the Hesse region. Palaces, castles and museums adorn the hilly, emerald terrain of this popular park that overlooks the city of Kassel. Bring your family for a fun and informative day outdoors in this enormous complex.

Enjoy the serenity in the park and bring along supplies for a picnic with your family. Gaze up at the rolling green hills that make up a scenic backdrop for the castles and palaces. Relax at one of the cafés dotted around the park.

Among the highlights is the 18th-century Loewenburg Castle, which has a mock-ruined exterior that hides the Baroque décor and furnishings within. Take a look around the neo-Gothic chapel and the sleeping quarters.

Visit the Schloss Wilhelmshoehe, an 18th-century palace that was built for Elector Wilhelm I. See its fascinating Gallery of Old Masters and browse the intriguing works of art on display in the graphics section and the antiquities collection. The castle museum is known for holding one of the world’s largest collections of Rembrandt paintings. Enjoy snacks and refreshments in the café in the basement or walk to the Hercules Terrace for food and a great view.

Here you’ll find the Hercules monument, which depicts the Greek demigod standing on a pyramid atop a wide eight-sided building. The structure marks the summit of this hilly park. Stroll alongside the Cascades, a set of small waterfalls flowing downhill from the Hercules monument.

Bergpark Wilhelmshoehe occupies a large elevated area in the western outskirts of Kassel. Walk or ride the tram to one of the stops bordering the southern end of the park. See nearby sights, such as the Kurhessen Therme thermal baths, the Zoo am Rammelsberg and the Golfclub Kassel-Wilhelmshoehe.
