Whitby Pavilion is a one-stop venue for entertainment set on Whitby’s seafront. Established in 1878, it features an auditorium with a proscenium arch and 380 seats, which can be removed to create a traditional dance hall. Whitby Pavilion also has a cinema, exhibition hall and splendid views of Whitby Beach.
The schedule features events suitable for all ages and tastes. Attend ballets, comedies, dramas and musicals performed by touring theater companies. Sing along with a tribute band to the songs of famous names from the music world such as ABBA and Willie Nelson. Magicians and puppet shows provide fun-filled entertainment for children.
The modern cinema screens the latest releases from Hollywood and independent directors. Learn how to dance ballroom with a celebrity dancer or enjoy the excitement of professional darts tournaments and wrestling bouts. Day and weekend-long festivals celebrate everything from blues, Motown and soul music to gin and the Goth subculture.
Whether you are attending an event or not, the pavilion’s café is a great place to hang out during the daytime. Dine on a menu of salads, sandwiches and sweet options. Free jazz concerts are held here during the summer months. Sit at a table by the floor-to-ceiling windows and admire the views of Whitby Beach, the pier lighthouses and Sandsend cliffs.
Located in the West Cliff district, Whitby Pavilion is within comfortable walking distance of Whitby’s major tourist attractions and hotels. Reach the Captain Cook Memorial Museum, The Dracula Experience and Whitby Abbey in under 20 minutes by foot. Paid and free, limited-hour parking is available on the streets above the venue. Whitby train station is 0.7 miles (1.1 kilometers) to the south.
Events at Whitby Pavilion take place year round. Purchase your tickets by telephone, via the pavilion’s official website and at the box office, which closes 1 hour prior to a performance. You can also make reservations at Whitby Tourist Information Centre, located on Langborne Road.
