The hotel room was so bad to say it had been recently been upgraded. We woke up with rain pounding through the windows and the carpet was totally soaking. Reported to reception with no response and hence the fire alarm constantly going off during the night. Wouldn’t stay again!!!!!

Property and rooms quite dated, wallpaper peeling off walls in corridors, room was classed as a superior twin with sea view. The sash windows are very old and were filthy, had to wipe the window to try and see the views. On the plus the food was good, breakfast was overpriced. Staff were friendly, it’s in a great location, but hotel needs updating and rooms should be priced accordingly.

The Royal has improved a lot with the room upgrades and the meals are lovely.

An old fashioned seaside hotel with huge charm. It’s in the middle of a renovation so some areas look a bit tired or are obviously being worked on. Room was clean and comfy and warm. Buffet breakfast was plentiful. And finally a toaster that properly toasts the bread!

Newly refurbished rooms are very good. The older rooms are wretchedly poor. Asking for an upgraded room is the best advice I can give. The location on Westcliffe is perfect and so convenient.
