Play among the waves, take your surfboard out to the breaks or drop a fishing line off the breakwater at Warrnambool’s fantastic local beach.

Warrnambool Beach is part of the city’s western foreshore, which includes spacious parks, lakes and the sandy shoreline of Lady Bay. The 2.2-mile (3.5-kilometer) sweep of sandy beach has sheltered and lifeguard-patrolled swimming areas on its western section and curling surf breaks to the east. Pack for a fun-filled day by the sea and make the most of Warrnambool Beach’s beautiful waters.

If you are visiting with younger children, find a patch of sand nearby the Warrnambool Surf Life Saving Club and swim in the area between the flags, which is patrolled on weekends during summer. The area between the club and the western breakwater is known as Bathing Beach. Kids will love playing in the shallows and exploring the grassy sand dunes that extend along the coast. If it’s bigger waves you seek, head east to Point Ritchie. Experienced surfers can tackle the reef break that appears here.

Go fishing from the breakwater at the western end of Lady Bay and chat to locals to see what’s biting. Behind the beach, you can visit the Lake Pertobe Adventure Park. This lakeside park has paddleboats for rent, nature trails, playgrounds and grill facilities.

Logans Beach, located on the east of Warrnambool Beach, is a favored spot for whale watching. Visit the whale-viewing platform at the mouth of the Hopkins River to these magnificent creatures between June and September.

If you are getting hungry, stop by the kiosk in the middle of Warrnambool Beach to pick up some fish and chips to enjoy by the water. Alternatively, head to the café near the breakwater to enjoy a meal with stunning views of Lady Bay, Middle Island and the Warrnambool Pier.

Warrnambool Beach is easily accessible by car and there are several parking lots along the foreshore. Bathing Beach is approximately a 20-minute walk from Warrnambool Railway Station.
