Lovely quiet stay

Pretty place very restful and a good breakfast included. The duvet tog seemed a bit much for the summer especially with a foam topper but otherwise I couldn’t fault it.

No staff at check in, place deserted just a room key left on table. Room small dismal damp carpet. No ensuite. Bathroom along corridor grotty and shabby. Door locks very difficult to use. Overall very unpleasant place, never again. Nice gardens. Very expensive for such an unpleasant stay

Dear Alison,I am very sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your stay at Charney. On reflection, perhaps you should have paid the additional 5.00 and upgraded your bedroom to an ensuite. We do feel that for 70.00 for the bedroom for a night to include a full continental breakfast is a very good price. As advertised and highlighted when booking, we are a conference and retreat centre and as such, our reception closes at 8.00 pm, its a shame you missed those details.But very happy to hear that you loved our gardens, they really are spectacular.

Terrible hotel, great staff.

Terrible first night in tiny single room in the Manor, couldn't control heating, room far too hot, open windows couldn't be secured so rattled all night. Squeaky, bouncy bed. 'Private bathroom' actually separate from room so had to lock room (lock impossible to understand), take massive bathroom key and towells to bathroom, which was very uninviting, lock up and unlock again. Didn't appreciate label on shower dispenser saying Do Not Remove, or one above taps saying Hot Water - ??? Felt like an institution. Although almost empty, all people staying were housed next to each other in the Manor, so when some of them decided to have a party we all had to suffer. The walls are very thin, and my bed actually shook when neighbours stomped about. Breakfast was what you'd expect from a 3 star place, but coffee was undrinkable. Only allowed to use 2 of the tables; again, unfriendly and institutional. I had such a bad night that I decided to leave rather than complete my stay, but happily for me met the head of housekeeping on my way out (whoever was supposed to actually be in charge had not arrived), and she was brilliant. She persuaded me to look at a much better room, in the barn, where there was no one else booked in next to me, and I had a huge (though still pretty institutional) bathroom, the heating could be turned off and the windows opened, and the bed was good. So glad I didn't have to look for another place to stay, and slept much better. Thank you Lisa!

Good morning Anonymous. Thank-you for taking the time to leave feedback we really appreciate receiving all feedback from our guests about our residential Conference Centre!. The single room with private bathroom you booked is the only one we have which has detached shower room at the cheaper rate located in the 1268 Manor house. We had plenty of en-suite rooms available at the time you booked, so its a shame that as the private bathroom was a issue for you why you didn't book an en-suite room. The heating can be controlled by yourself by pushing the blue (for colder) red (for hotter) buttons on the radiator valve, there is a little sign explaining how to do this next to the radiator. Talking of signage, we understand your frustration regarding the signage in the shower room stating hot water, health and safety dictates that we have a sign for this unfortunately, and the sign asking guests not to remove the shower dispenser is because to many times this has been removed and it costs our charity money to keep replacing them, money which would rather spend on improving guests services. On your point about all guests being located in the Manor House when the conference centre (not a hotel) was quiet, we understand where you are coming from and ideally we wouldn't of wanted this, however, we are dictated by the room types guests book, just so happens on this occasion the triple room is next to the single room with private shower room and the double room is above the triple and single with private shower room. We only have one each of these room types which is why you were all located together. We are sorry that the guests next door to you decided to have a party, as you'' appreciate it's not something we can control, however, it's a pity that you didn't ring the emergency contact number which you were given at the time of arrival we would of happily dealt with the issue there and then. Glad you decided to stay another night after you saw Lisa when she arrived at 08:15, she is fantastic and we will pass on your kind words to her. The office opens from 09:00 -20:00 arrive in time for our shifts to cover these hours.The room that Lisa upgraded you to is our twin accessible family room, really pleased to hear you had a good night sleep and enjoyed the much larger room with seating area. Maybe moving forward this is the room type you should be looking to book when staying in a conference centre or a hotel if you choose to book a hotel instead. Thank-you for staying at Charney Manor Conference and Retreat Centre.
