On the banks of the Sakai River in the Urayasu district of Tokyo, Wakashio Park is a pleasant place to while away a couple of hours in the sunshine. Get away from the busy pace of the city and discover some respite in this pleasant green space.
Visitors will find plenty of benches and places to unwind, as well as a maze of walking paths. Choose to discover the park slowly on a relaxed stroll, or go for an energetic jog as you explore.
In the spring and early summer months the mature trees become weighed down with white and pink blossoms, which makes for a very pretty scene. The breeze coming off the nearby sea often blows the petals and creates a magical blossom rain. Make sure you bring your camera if you’re visiting at the right time of year.
Children will love Wakashio Park, both for its open spaces which are perfect for kicking a ball about in, and for the Urayasu City Traffic Playground. The playground is designed like a mini race track and children can ride bicycles, battery-operated cars and even ponies. Stop by the small animal zoo, where children can meet all sorts of other interesting creatures.
Pack a picnic and enjoy a lunch in Wakashio Park. There are many picnic benches available, and the big trees create plenty of shade. Local families gather here during the warmer months to enjoy the outdoors and let their children play in safety.
Take the train to Shin-Urayasu Station and from there it’s a short walk to the Wakashio Park. You’ll find it on the eastern bank of the Sakai River opposite Irifune Park. There are many other attractions to enjoy in Urayasu too, such as Tokyo Disney Resort, the Urayasu Sports Park and Urayasu Comprehensive Park.
