A nice 3 star hotel overlooking the Chateau and walking distance from the old town. Helpful, friendly staff.

An oldie but a goodie
Posted 19 Aug 2018 on HotelsA charming old hotel- no frills but comfortable- in a lovely old historical town. Giles and Marie speak little English but made me very welcome.

Basic French charm
Posted 1 Jun 2018 on HotelsThe hotel is very well located in the city. It’s typically French and the breakfasts are adequate. Downsides to the hotel is that it is a basic hotel. Don’t expect anything extra. It is truly a two star hotel. A colleagues door would not lock and their shower kept falling off the wall. There was some noise from neighbouring rooms and was woken a few times by hearing coughs and telephone text beeps from the rooms either side. However the room I was in (number 4) was excellently located and everything worked.
The two people working in the hotel were very welcoming and if you are holidaying in the area then this a good hotel for a few nights.

Hotel in easy reach of town
Posted 28 Sep 2017
Pros: Location is good for town. Staff friendly and helpful.
Cons: Remove the shelf above washbasin.
Location: Very interesting town. Full of interesting architecture.
A hotel that is very dated in decor. No smoking room but when window is open smoke transfers from the people in courtyard below. Clean and comfortable bed. Bathroom had shelf above washbasin that means you bang your head on it when washing.

Excellent hotel and excellent value.
Posted 12 Sep 2017 on HotelsExcellent hotel in excellent location and close to free parking. Hosts very friendly and breakfast and room were excellent. Well worth paying for superior room - we had a large room with view of Chateau.

Nice, conveniently located hotel

Pros: Friendly staff, great breakfast, convenient location, in a clean, comfortable, character hotel.
Cons: WiFi access
Location: The Chateau de Vitre is an impressive medieval castle within stone's throw of the hotel, the medieval streets, and the nearby cathedral.
Situated in a cobblestone street within walking distance of the station, the Chateau de Vitre, and the medieval part of town, is this clean hotel with friendly staff and comfortable rooms. I took a double room with a balcony and view of the Chateau, which was quite lovely until the early hours when drunken revellers were stumbling home from what sounded like a great night out. While it was refreshing to note that the French, whom I had observed as quite reserved and rather polite on the streets, were just as capable of letting their hair down and living it up as anyone else - you might prefer a quieter room for your stay.
The building in which the hotel is located has clearly been around for a while and lends a lot of character, the carpet on the stairs has seen better days but on the whole the hotel is well presented. There was an issue with the WiFi, with neither my phone or tablet picking up the hotel's signal, and despite a number of strategies on the part of the husband and wife who manage the hotel, I didn't have access to WiFi for the duration of my stay. Breakfast was nice however, with endless coffee and croissants.
I especially appreciated the fact that my bathroom had a bath tub as I was nursing a head cold and it allowed me to soak and relax after a long day travelling.
