Great location, view, cooking, hospitality!
Posted 27 Jan 2019 on HotelsSuper welcoming family and friends, with fabulous harbor views, in the old, quiet and unspoilt small fishing town of Puerto Esperanda. Gourmet cooked dinners with interesting company for $12--that's a single lobster in the photograph! The Vinales Valley is tourable from here, the family will be happy to arrange such tours on the spot--the husband and son accompanied me on a cave hike. The rooms are small, but cute, and the huge balcony overlooking the ocean has chairs and table, plus the living room is open, and shown below with interesting visitors. One caution--a conversation was initiated by a "representative" of the hotel. We thought we were talking with the hotel, but it was a Cuban agency that offered to book travel to the hotel, and tours. As a result, we paid twice what we should have. Make arrangements with the casa itself, by calling it directly. (An express bus to Vinales, and then a taxi to the casa is cheapest.)

Favorite place in Cuba!
Posted 8 Sep 2018 on HotelsAbsolutely love this place!!! If you want to visit the "real Cuba" then this is a must. It is a small fishing village and the hotel (converted home) is right at the water's edge. The fully air conditioned rooms (two) are built on top of their family's home and are situated on a beautifully built shaded patio that overlooks the water and the small fishing boats. We ate both dinners and breakfast on the patio and they all were fantastic (lobster and fresh fish both nights)! Everything is cooked in their home and is very reasonably priced. We asked them to set up transportation to Viñuales (tourist town that is in the national park that is nearby) and to Pinar del Rio (great non-tourist town) and the owner is the one who drove us. We also paid them to drive us when we returned to Havana. The family was great and made us feel like royalty. We enjoyed our stay here more than Havana itself and I love Havana. Remember that this is a non-tourist town so wifi is very limited (you have to walk down the road a little bit to get connection) and yes, you will see garbage on the sides of the road. With that said, you will see that many of the town all hang out near the two bars near the water's edge dancing, partying, and listening to music in the evening/night about a block away. We hired a taxi from Havana (a 1950's convertible) for about 200 CUC to get there.
