Need to make the elevator less scary.... I did not use it after the first time , I was on the 5th floor and the elevator dropped 10-12 inches at the top. Decided to use all 124 stairs instead.

Beautiful building. Great front desk staff who spoke excellent English and were very helpful. Restaurant staff also efficient. Our room was spacious and house keeping always kept room immaculately clean. Definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a fabulous stay in Viareggio.

Fantastic Location & Service - Highly Recommended
Posted 24 Jul 2024 on HotelsWe honeymooned in Viareggio 20 years ago and returned for our 20th anniversary last week. On arrival at the Grand Hotel Royal, the Receptionist said they’d upgraded us to a room with a balcony facing the seafront, which was really lovely….each evening we sat on the balcony, drinking a glass of wine before dinner and watching the world go by.
Throughout our stay, the staff were all really helpful and friendly, the food was excellent (except for the steak) and the peaceful swimming pool and bar area is like a secluded oasis, surrounded by trees that block out the neighbouring building.
If we ever return to Viareggio, we will definitely stay at the Grand Hotel Royal again!

What a place! The town has a cool Cannes vibe but nicer and less crowds. The hotel is terrific and a time capsule from the 30’s with great upgrades notably a pool. Food was great at the hotel as well. Staff friendly and accommodating
