I recently stayed at Antico Panada Hotel in Venice, and my experience was quite mixed. The check-in process was smooth, with a friendly gentleman in the lobby who was very accommodating. However, I was surprised to be directed to a different building. This wasn’t a major issue for me, but I did find it inconvenient that the elevator only started from the (European) first floor, (second floor in USA) requiring the bellboy to carry my bags up. The room itself had a few maintenance issues, but nothing too bothersome. Unfortunately, the next morning's breakfast left much to be desired. The selection was poor, the space felt cramped, and the coffee machine was a disaster, making it difficult to enjoy a simple morning cup. It also seemed that the hotel didn’t have enough staff to handle the breakfast rush. Checkout was particularly frustrating. They don’t have personal until 9:30 am to help me with my luggage. Of course I did it by myself. When I asked to check out my room and mentioned that I would leave the key in the room, the gentleman in the lobby insisted that I had to return the key to him personally. He wouldn’t accept any excuses and expected me to carry three pieces of luggage and a backpack to the other building just to hand in that insignificant item. Overall, while the hotel has potential, the service and amenities need significant improvement.

Where to start? First of all, I've stayed in many 3 star hotels and this hotel is a 2 star at best. Pros: free breakfast (croissants, ham, cheese, cereal, yogurt and coffee), close to St. Mark's square. Cons: eventhough I'd booked a room with a double bed, we were initially put into a room with two single beds, in two separate rooms. We spoke to a man at the front desk and he agreed to move us to a different room the next day, which I was happy about. When you walk into the lobby, the smell of sewer gases will make you gag and I often saw other guests covering their noses with handkerchiefs or their hands. Once in the room, (we were in 220, after they moved us from 251) the smell subsided, which was a relief. I'm not a fussy guest by any means, but the room was disappointing on many fronts: the beds are very uncomfortable (spring mattresses in desperate need of replacing), the toilet seat was loose and didn't fit the bowl, the shower was so fierce you could probably remove paint with it, the tiles were broken in numerous places on the walls and floor, there was a metal grate on the floor in the bathroom with sharp edges, just waiting to gouge an unsuspecting foot, the towel rack was coming off the wall and all the decor in the room just looked tired, tacky and cheap, not charming or with character, as I'd hoped it would be. Yes, the hotel is old (started accepting guests in 1889), but there's a big difference between antique-style furnishings and cheap, tacky junk.

Checkin fantastic Alex was so welcoming to us on arrival also checked in an hour early. The reception lady at night not so nice! Room was very venecian, old style furniture, paintings curtains. Loved it. Fantastic location. 450m from Rialto bridge, closer to San Marco Sq. Like stepping back in time. Beds firm, shower pressure good. Breakfast basic but great bonus. Would definitely recommend. Read some bad reviews maybe different rooms? Or peoples expectations are unrealistic for what you pay. We ate dinner at the restaurant, was also good and reasonable price.

The hotel has a very strong door of the sewer especially in the first floor where the reception is. The smell is unsoundly a health hazard to the public exposed to it. The hotel should be ordered closed. The furniture is very worn out and aging as the entire hotel is. The coffee does not even tastes like coffee.

Though the room was small (as they often are in Venice), it was cosy, nicely decorated and comfortable, Piping hot water always and a very handy towel rail. The location, just a few steps away from St.Mark's Square, couldn't be better. i was very happy with this hotel,

This hotel was ok, far from the worst place we’ve booked, but not the best. It’s very clean, a good location and a decent breakfast. The wifi is awful and no one in our group could get cell service inside the hotel. Not a big deal for us, we were only there to sleep, the rest of the day we were out. The beds and pillows are terrible. The mattresses are very firm and I don’t know if you can actually call their pillows a pillow. The hallways to the room are a maze, they really should walk you all the way back to your room, not just try and give directions. We got lost once and we saw several other guests get confused. It was nice to be in a good spot near San Marco and the breakfast was good, I just wish it had even semi comfortable beds.

You didn't accept our request and decided to collect the full price. I thought you'll understand the situation and keep this payment for the the time we'll have flight and come or not collect the money. BUt you didnt.

Good points: The property is so close to San Marco plaza which is why I chose it, and there are some small restaurants just steps away from the hotel. Bad points: safe didn't work (it looked to be about 30 years old and was missing pieces), broken hair dryer, very, very poor lighting and no natural light (I had to use a flashlight to pack my bag), mosquitoes in my room. Very hard bed.

Excellent location, quirky and memorable hotel, good service. After reading some of the reviews we were unsure what to expect but we had a pleasant surprise. The staff are professional and courteous, our room was spacious and very clean, cleaned on a daily basis and towels replaced. The breakfast was a typical Italian continental breakfast and contains juices, yogurts, meats and croissants, plenty of choice available. Lovely showers and pleasant facilities plus round the corner, less than a minutes walk from St Marks Square. We would recommend this hotel.

The hotel is in close proximity to San Marco Square. We found the rooms very small for 2 adults. No space for our luggage. My partner had to put his luggage on top of the cabinet. No air conditioning so it got very hot in the room. We opened the windows to get some air. Bad move. We were attacked my mosquitoes. We killed around 3 and one stayed during our entire stay. Elevator very small and slow. Would not recommend for people with mobility difficulties.
