Staff was awesome at helping me with many questions. Facilities were good & comfortable. The immediate location is dirty but very centrally located and enough off the main 24/7 road to make it more relaxing. Breakfast was excellent. The only issue for me was having a room next to reception so I heard the doorbell a lot. The local power grid is a bit unreliable but works most of the time.

Varanasi, a vibrant experience
Posted 4 Mar 2020 on HotelsLocation wise it’s good - close to the Ghats and Temples either by walk or by rickshaws. The only thing that puts you off is the smelly and cow dung splattered lanes. Competition between people, vehicles & cows in the roads / lanes to the Ghats is very high. The authorities need to do something about it. It’s chaotic! If you are interested in buying sarees - we took up the suggestions of an electric riskshaw and a manual rickshaw drivers to take us to a saree manufacturer’s shop on 2 different occasions and found them to be genuine and good.

Good location. Good breakfast, Front Desk Issues

After we had checked in, they told us that we have to pay in cash only (I wasn't traveling with an ATM card as I charge everything, only have a little cash from previous trips) because their card reader wasn't working. We made it clear that we we couldn't. It was working by the time we checked out, but then without asking "for our convenience" they converted ₹ to the currency of my passport, even though my card is in ₹. And they tacked on a 5% convenience fee that they pocket while the charge was converted back to rupees to hit my bank. That was not the deal we had here on Hotels.com. Breakfast was simple but tasty and filling, Location is close the the middle of the ghats. But it is a little walk from the closest point an Uber can get you to the location.

We apologize if there was any kind of miscommunication regarding payment at front desk. Apparently, card payment terminals work through GPS signals over which we don't have any control. Sometimes, due to weak network signal, machines don't work and that't why we suggested you to make payments in Cash.
Also, out terminal is a DCC based terminal, which means your card is charged in your base currency by default. This is not to pocket any kind of hidden fees rather to save our guests the currency conversion fees from their bank. When your card is charged in base currency of your bank, you don't have to pay any fee for the currency conversion instead of the time when it is charged in INR, you will need to pay your bank to convert your currency in INR.
As merchants, we can not charge any kind of surcharge or any other hidden fee from you other than the payment amount. Whatever fee is being charged for the transaction is being charged by your bank as per the facilities enabled on your card for international payments.
On our end, we already pay transaction charges to our bank for accepting payments through cards so we are not getting anything extra out of this.
We hope other than this, you had a pleasant experience during your stay with us.
