Rude staff and extra charges
Posted 26 Dec 2022 on HotelsRoom was comfortable and the kitchen was okay for cooking basic meals. It was quite far out of the centre of town but close to the bus station and the bus to vina Del mar. Staff were rude and charged us more than we should have been charged as they added on a tax that was not applicable to us and then said they were unable to refund us. We specifically asked about payment methods to make sure we were not charged extra and were told if we paid on card we would not be charged this tax, we were then told that paying on card was the reason we could not receive a refund. Staff were rude and unhelpful throughout our stay.

Hi Declan, we are glad you liked some aspects of our hostel and thank you for mentioning them.About the tax you mention, we would like to let you know that every time you pay in Chilean pesos, it is mandatory for us to charge you a 19% tax. Everything you purchase in our currency already has that 19% added to it, food, transportation, clothes, etc.The only way to NOT pay that would be to do it with a CREDIT CARD (not debit card), or in cash in USD.So if you paid with a credit card, it was most likely with a debit card, in CLP.We hope you understand our explanation, and we are sorry for the misunderstanding.

Me encantó el lugar. Si bien fui en un fin de semana de cuarentena para descansar y desconectarme, aproveché los ricos tragos del restaurant y la compañía de esos dos hermosos gatos que te acompañan a todos lados (cuando no están durmiendo, claro!)
El personal es excelente, super amables y preocupados.
Tuve un problema con la ducha, pero nada del otro mundo.
Volveré de todas maneras

Lovely Hostel
Posted 1 Jan 2020 on HotelsWe had a great time at La Joya Hostel. The room was a private twin room. It was really clean and well presented. The staff were super helpful too. They have a lively bar which do great Pisco Sours!

Perfectly located near the bus terminal and the Chile Congress building, it is a nice place to stay: friendly and helpfull staff, modern design and a really good restaurant and bar.
