Beautiful grounds, but a bit remote!
Posted 1 Jan 2020 on HotelsI’ve always booked as a solo person but had no idea that you charge per person in nicaragua.
It was awkward that they didn’t tell me at check - in so that was a bit annoying as I paid twice the price. But supposedly she gave me a discount at least.

The property is located in a prime surfing location. Close to the beach and nestled on the edge of lush jungle vegetation. This place is a hidden gem. The banana smoothies with milk are the best. A vast selection of fresh ripe fruits and tasty grinds is what this hotel serves up for you. The garden and pool are well kept and the rooms are very spacious. If you want a t.v in your room you will have to get an upgrade. A.c is ice cold and the king beds are very comfortable.

Like staying at a resort!
Posted 5 Mar 2018Hotel Popoyo is a clean, well kept gem tucked away off the beaten path. The front desk staff are friendly and always helpful. We stayed in a deluxe room (not in the main building) and it was lovely, clean and spacious with a safe and air conditioning; the bathroom was nice and seemed newly renovated; the beds however were not the most comfortable and were too short for anyone over 5'6" tall! The pool is beautiful, kept clean and so nice to relax in and around! The kitchen served very good food, lots of options and the included breakfast was a major perk! Only minor complaint is that although the waitresses were lovely, the service was slow (and sometimes non existent around the pool); we often were not asked if we wanted another drink and occasionally even left the table before ever receiving the last drink we had ordered.

Best spot in Popoyo
Posted 4 Mar 2018 on HotelsGreat spot in a beautiful part of Nica! Great hotel within walking distance of the beach which is ideal for surfing and sunsets. Very clean rooms with AC, great food, pool and super friendly staff. Best place to stay in Poppyo! Use the hotel shuttle for transport because it makes life way easier

Family travel

Pros: The staff - the women who seemed to run the place were so nice, helpful and friendly.
This was a lovely little hotel to base ourselves at for the visit to the beach. We loved the pool and the cabanas, and the location to the beach and to the natural pools made by the rock formations. It seemed like there were a number of local families who visited the hotel, which was really nice - not just travelers. We wished that there had been a recommendation to have your own car - we did not have one and that made it hard to explore much beyond the hotel.

Great Spot for Popoyo
Posted 25 Sep 2017 on HotelsThis place is great for what is advertised as. The staff is great and go out of the way to help you out. The food is good, and you never have to worry about bad ice or anything like that (being that it is Nicaragua). The beach is close, and the pool is prefect for both kids and adults. Highly recommend this place.

Nice, quiet, perfect with kids hotel

Pros: The breakfast and pool were wonderful.
Cons: It would be helpful if one or two more staff members spoke more English.
Location: There's surfing, yoga, snorkelling and great beaches all within 5-45 mins of the hotel.
We had a wonderful stay at Hotel Popoyo. We arrived very late Sunday night (flight delayed), but the hotel had dinner waiting for us and the kids jumped in the pool at 11pm at night after a long day of travel from NYC. That definitely set the tone of our trip, Adonis the driver was always available to take us places, breakfast (included) was hot and made to order (I recommend the Ranchero), it was a little far from SJDS but it didn't deter us as we toured the whole island and took a day trip to Ometepe which was gorgeous (if you're going to Ometepe, I suggest getting a room there for the night as there's a lot to see and do). The rooms were clean, the staff was friendly, the beer was cold and the food was always tasty. Two day trips I highly recommend from the hotel: Playa Gigante and Magnific Rock. Also, the beach Finca Popoyo is only 10-15 mins away and is a complimentary ride from the hotel. The hotel manager, Maximo, was readily available via email but I only met him in person once. Whatever we needed though, he made sure the staff at the hotel could accommodate us. We were two families traveling together, so to rent a car was more expensive than having Adonis drive us everywhere, plus the roads are very tricky in places, which made it easier for us to sit back and enjoy the ride. I highly recommend Hotel Popoyo, we will definitely be going back!
