Golf on a course that’s been described as one of the most spectacular on the U.S. East Coast. The changing scenery inspires golfers from hole to hole.

Undulating hills and water scenes provide a challenging game at North Myrtle Beach’s Tidewater Golf Club. Good players will have their interests piqued with the course’s varied elevations. Golfers at all levels of experience can enjoy the scenery, which includes saltwater flats, ocean and an inland waterway.

Play the course’s east side while viewing an ocean inlet and marsh. The north and west sides have several holes flanking a section of the Intracoastal Waterway that runs from the Gulf of Mexico to New England.

The 18-hole par-72 public course opened in 1990 and was recognized as the best new public course in America by the publication Golf Digest. Architect Ken Tomlinson used the natural features to highlight the southern state’s Grand Strand course, incorporating hardwood stands similar to those found farther north. Play the course and you’ll understand why the club is referred to as the Pebble Beach of the East.

The clubhouse includes a restaurant, bar and golf shop. Located 6 miles (9 kilometers) from North Myrtle Beach, the club provides a relaxing atmosphere away from an urban center. Proximity to the city allows for convenient accommodations and conveniences.

Spend time on the area’s many sandy beaches, including Cherry Grove Beach, the closest to the golf club. Fish from the lengthy pier, where several state, national and world fishing records have been broken.

Head a bit south to watch a live alligator feeding and handling show, go on a riverboat queen cruise, visit one of the area’s wineries and attend an award-winning show at The Carolina Opry Theater. Learn the swing dance known as the shag at many entertainment hotspots. The shag is South Carolina’s official dance.

Drive to Tidewater Golf Club from the center of North Myrtle Beach in about 15 minutes. Join many others who return to the course again and again after trying it once and appreciating the challenge and beauty Tidewater offers.
