The Forum

Home to art exhibitions, a café, a library and family-friendly festivals, this is one of Norwich’s most visited attractions.

The Forum is a multi-use cultural center located in the city center of Norwich. An estimated 5,000 people visit The Forum every day. They come to enjoy free exhibitions, festivals and workshops, to visit one of the nation’s busiest libraries and watch theatrical performances.

Inaugurated in 2001, this public building was part of an initiative set up to celebrate the millennium via landmark development projects across the United Kingdom. It stands on the site of a library that burned down in 1994. Note the striking glass frontage, which looks spectacular when illuminated at night. The steps outside create an amphitheater-like setting and the area is often used by skateboarders, theater groups and musicians.

A major draw of the center is the Norfolk and Norwich Millennium Library. Browse thousands of books, magazines and newspapers and use the free Wi-Fi internet connection. Curious visitors check their family and house history at the Norfolk Heritage Centre. Also in the building are offices of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), a gift shop, tourist information center, café and pizza restaurant.

Free events take place almost every day of the week. Browse exhibitions by recognized artists, such as Sir Quentin Blake, in the Atrium. Shop at handicraft fairs and sample cuisine from around the world at food markets. Theater shows take place here as part of May’s Norwich and Norfolk Festival and the Norwich Citadel Band often performs Christmas carol concerts in December.

The Forum is just a short walk from major city landmarks and attractions, including Norwich City Hall and Norwich Market. Norwich train station is about 1 mile (1.6 kilometers) to the east. Metered parking is possible in an underground car park at the rear of the building. Proceeds from the car park get reinvested into the maintenance of the building.

You can visit The Forum daily, except for Christmas Day and Boxing Day. It’s open from early in the morning until midnight. Visit the attraction’s official website for an up-to-date schedule of events.
