Surat Bay is accessible and, further along, so is cannibal bay. Owaka nearby is also a lovely spot for an hour or two, with a solid restaurant, great coffee place, superb book shop and quaint little museum and community space. It is a beautiful spot, far from the world where all you'll hear are birds, the sea and wind moving through water ... And rain! Lots of rain! But without the rain, you wouldn't get that lush kiwi green."
