An older building that has been nicely refurbished and creatively decorated with a wester theme. A fresh, tasty breakfast is included with homemade breads and a main egg dish.

Great place to stay with very nice owners.

Posted 21 Mar 2016
Pros: nice rooms, comfy beds, off the main strip with low traffic, great homemade breakfast, very nice staff, beautiful decorations, friendly atmosphere
Cons: all was good
Location: it is within a 30 minute drive from three local ski resorts. The local dining options are plentiful and there are also many local attractions.
Me and my girlfriend had a wonderful 4 night stay and really enjoyed the quaint old time charm of the Inn. Rooms were very nicely decorated and cozy. There is a small stream running behind the building and it's nice to open the back window to let the sound of the babbling stream relax you. There is also an outdoor hot tub to help relax your muscles if you have been skiing at any of the three local resorts that are each within a beautiful, scenic 30 minute drive from the front door of your room. We enjoyed the option to ski all three resorts over our stay and still be able to come back to the Inn each night and have the option to dine anywhere in the city of Taos, rather than being locked down to the limited options at a resort stay. The owners Robert, and Julie were very personable and helpful anytime we had a question about local activities and dining options, and treated us more like friends rather than customers. I don't want to forget to mention the amazing full breakfast included each morning in the main area of the Inn. It is homemade and was always delicious each morning of our stay. If you want a one of a kind, cozy, comfortable, relaxing stay then this is the place for you.

We loved the atmosphere, the owners, and the food at the inn. My only suggestion would be to add coffee makers to the rooms or to open the lobby for coffee earlier.

Over the top Folky

Cons: New mattress
Very visually bright with "ornate" everywhere. Just too much! It takes away from the real quaintness of Taos. The mattress is so old and uncomfortable, only a dog could maybe get any sleep!

Stormy Weather in Texas = Terrific Time in Taos!

Posted 6 Jan 2016 on Travelocity
Pros: The owners and Stormy (pet dog) are absolutely fantastic and friendly. Great home cooked breakfast and a warm fireplace made us feel very welcomed.
Cons: The bathroom was a little cold but tolerable.
Location: Perfect location. We visited Taos Pueblo, Rio Grande Gorge, Angel Fire, Taos Ski Village, great restaurants, town square and Santa Fe.
Our December 26th flight from Houston was cancelled because of bad weather. We were re-scheduled on an early flight the next morning. We made the Houston flight but were delayed in Dallas. Fortunately, we caught the last flight out of big D. I let the owners know that we would be in late. I was told not to worry, the room would be nice and warm. And it was! We had a great home cooked breakfast every morning with excellent company. The owners and Stormy - the pet dog - are friendly and made us feel at home. Our room was spotless and the friendly staff always made sure we had what we needed during our week visit. And, the owner was kind enough to lend my wife a jacket because her luggage didn't arrive until three days later. The location is perfect and is just a short drive to everything Taos. We even took a day trip to Santa Fe. Our trip began slow because of the "Stormy Weather" in Texas. But it turned out to be a great vacation. We look forward to staying at The Inn on the Rio during our next visit to Taos because the owners are friendly, the breakfast is excellent, the rooms are clean, the location is perfect and we want to see Stormy again. :)

Good experience if you come prepared

Posted 4 Jan 2016 on Hotels
Exactly what we wanted, clean, warm, modest price with kitchenette. We were out and about all day so no need for luxury. If you plan to use the kitchenette -- worth popping over to the Albertson's to buy a few items -- we bought a large pan, chopping board, sharp knife, cooking spoon, dish cloths, paper towels etc. Or bring your own from home. Kitchenette only had crockery and cutlery. Breakfast not up to much and very small crowded room, so we tended to just take stuff back to our room, or make our own.

Meh.

Pros: Hot tub.
Cons: Electrical outlets.
Location: Skiing and art.
Heater in the room was weak. Breakfast was homey, but rather basic. No fruit? Cider and fireplace were very nice.

Nice Hotel in Taos

Posted 30 Dec 2015
First, the best: Breakfast is included at this hotel and it is divine! Homemade bread, eggs, fresh fruit and coffee! We were greeted the first night by the friendly owners who offered a glass of wine. They were very knowledgeable of restaurants etc and were very hospitable. The bad: Showers with very low water pressure and abruptly turning to scalding if another tenant uses the water (which is often) Poor WiFi connection, and location was too remote. The parking lot was also a bit damaged, combined with potholes and the snow, it made it difficult to drive out onto the main road.
