"Greatly enjoyed this stay. Big resort up in the hills offering a great view of the city out the windows. The room was big and comfortable. For dinner, we ordered the special set dinner for two which was fantastic with great service. For breakfast, it was a buffet but great nonetheless. The onsens were spacious with multiple pools. The only negative, which was a big one, was the self laundry facilities. The four machines looked modern but they weren’t. Firstly, four machines for a hotel of this size is inadequate. Worse, the dryers didn’t dry. People had their clothes in there for an hour and they were still pretty wet. We ended up having to abandon ship after midnight and went to a local laundromat the next day. They need to upgrade these machines!"

"This hotel has its pros and cons, but it’s a place I’d happily revisit. The location is fantastic—central and convenient for exploring the area. However, the breakfast left a lot to be desired. The only options were a sandwich or pancakes, and unfortunately, neither was enjoyable. If breakfast is important to you, I’d suggest planning to eat elsewhere. We ended up staying in two different rooms due to a change of plans. Based on this experience, I’d highly recommend booking the modern Japanese room or a higher-tier option. Avoid the universal room if you can; it felt much less appealing in comparison. The laundry facilities were a bit of a letdown. While the washer was fine, the dryer didn’t work well at all. If you need to do laundry, I’d suggest using the washer here but taking your clothes to a nearby dryer for better results. Despite these hiccups, I’d certainly stay here again. The location and the charm of the modern Japanese rooms make it a worthwhile choice, and hopefully, they’ll have improved the breakfast by then! But if not, the local market is a fantastic option!!"

"The location was great, and the hotel was very comfortable to stay. Walkable to many shops and restaurants. We needed to leave early in the morning, so we canceled our breakfast the day before. They did not have any problem to give us refund back for the meal. We loved that flexibility and appreciated."

"My stay here was very comfortable. My room (with a single bed) felt massive compared to all others I stayed at in Japan, making it a good choice for both short- and long-term stays. (I stayed for two nights.) The overall decor/vibe felt a little older/more stale than I was expecting, but ultimately I wasn't in Takayama to sit around in a hotel room. The kitchenette and washer/dryer were both great; it does take a while to get clothes dry, but that seems standard for washer-dryer combos. Bonus points for the multi-USB charging cable. The location of the hotel is perfect: super close to the train station, which meant I didn't have to drag my bags across town like I saw so many others doing. The immediate area is a bit ugly (as it usually is near train stations), but Takayama is so walkable that it doesn't matter. I didn't have many interactions with staff, as my room was on the second floor and I always used the stairs and side entrance, but check-in and check-out were both super speedy, which I appreciated. One thing that irked me was that there was always laundry in the hallway. Always. No matter the time of day or night, there were bags of laundry outside my door. Maybe they don't have better storage options? Still, it felt unprofessional. And the linens themselves all smelled like tempura shrimp, as if the cleaners was next to a tempura restaurant. Very strange. But, overall, still a nice stay! Good value for the money."
