See astounding contemporary architecture give way to Taiwan’s majestic mountain ranges in Taichung. This fascinating city is known for its focus on small business. A trip to its downtown district reveals intimate restaurants, family-owned businesses and traditional markets. Find an exciting range of museums, gardens and cultural attractions within a short stroll from the city’s central WuQuan Parkway, also known as the Art Museum Parkway.
Receive a perfect introduction to the city in the Parkway, Taichung’s corridor of urban parkland. Arrive early to join the locals for tai chi and grab breakfast from a nearby street vendor. Try youtiao, a fried breadstick wrapped in a delicate green onion pancake.
The National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts is located at the Parkway’s southern end. See work by some of Taiwan’s most significant artists, as well as cultural artefacts and interactive exhibits for children. In the evening, visit Taichung’s night markets, such as Feng Chia Night Market. Browse the stalls of souvenirs and try fresh regional dishes. Grab a cup of original Taichung bubble tea, a tea drink mixed with tapioca pearls and milk or fruit.
Reach Taichung by plane or high-speed rail. Explore Taichung’s compact downtown area on foot or catch taxis and local buses. Taichung’s climate is mild year-round, making it a great destination for outdoor exploring.
