Travel to Stromstad, a charming town in Bohuslan on the Swedish west coast. Stromstad is very popular amongst tourists from Sweden and Norway, especially during the hot summer months when the marina and the camp sites are teeming with life, but there is always something to do in Stromstad, independent of the season. Go shopping in Sweden's fourth biggest shopping destination, with both several large malls and charming little boutique stores. Stromstad also has many nice litte cafés where you can have a Swedish "fika" and restaurants right by the sea where you enjoy fish and seafood straight off the boats in the harbour.
Take the ferry out to the Koster Islands in Stromstad's outer archipelago. Ferries depart for both North Koster and South Koster from the harbour several times a day, and these islands are practically car free paradises perfect for biking or hiking. The archipelago outside Stromstad consists of hundreds of islands and islets and contains Sweden's oldest marine national park. Kosterhavet National Park is the most ecologically diverse marine area in the country, and offers serene nature and incredible ocean views.
If you want to get active during your visit to Stromstad you can walk some of the 360 kilometre long Bohusleden which goes through the whole county of Bohuslan. Discover ancient environments and ruins around Bolmsholms Sateri or visit the outdoor museum in Stromsdalen. Find out more about the town's history at Stromstad Museum in a stately building by Stromsan or visit the art gallery Lokstallet.
Whether you spend a week or a weekend in Stromstad you mustn't miss the fascinating Alaska on the ilsand Nord Lango. This art complex consists of natural stone and shell creations, made by the gold seeker Hilma Swedahl on her return to Stromstad after 30 years in Alaska, USA.
