A beautiful GradeII listed building, a superb spa facility and excellent food but it was let down by dreadful service from the front of house staff. On arrival we were greeted by ‘you alright’ - we expected perhaps ‘good evening, how can I help?’ Or something similar. We were then told our room number and where it was and as no further information seemed to be forthcoming we had to ask questions to ascertain what time breakfast was, where it was, where the bar was, where the spa was, did we need to book anything etc etc. Surely guests need to know this information and so it should be naturally volunteered? The spa was superb but the staff were lackadaisical and disinterested. For many people it might be the 1st time there and volunteer how to get into the outside pool? That padlocks are available for a refundable £1? Finally….dinner!!! We had a reservation for 1915. We arrived on time and waited by the sign…no staff. We popped our heads in the dining room and got some attention and were seated. We then sat for 30 mins before any order for drinks or food was taken. 15 mins later we saw our wine arrive in the room - it was delivered to us 5 mins later. White wine….which was definitely not cold. We asked for ice to cool it - twice we did this before served. Food was excellent but after finishing, waiting for plates to be cleared and dessert offered for another 25 mins we gave up and left. There was a function going on but things shouldn’t compromise service for other guests.

Check in was quick and easy , reception staff friendly . On entry to our room it’s dated , carpet very worn curtains torn and pelmet hanging off . On the window cill there were 2 dead ladybirds which made us think that the room hadn’t been cleaned . There were also flys in the room this raised alarm bells and we made our way back to reception . There were quite a few people waiting to be checked in so we waited to speak to staff when was quieter . As soon as we raised our concerns we was upgraded to the other side of the hotel in the Henry suite . Nice room still dated but clean . Beds comfortable and slept well . Breakfast next morning was good with a wide choice from hot food to cereal and pastries. Would we stay again unfortunately not .

Lovely property and location. Spa was great, although jacuzzi and outdoor area not working on Sunday. Breakfast was good, not excellent, rooms fine, just a little tired and dated. Expected of this type of hotel though. Lounge area, bar and gardens lovely

This property is very charming. Lovely grounds and quite peaceful. Staff was very pleasant and helpful.
