Stanton Hall is a splendid mansion built in the antebellum Greek-revival style. Completed in 1859 to be the home of a wealthy cotton merchant, the mansion was fitted out like a palace and decorated with the finest furnishings of the period. Explore the mansion on a fascinating tour and learn about its previous owners. Learn about the part Stanton Hall played during the Civil War. The mansion is operated as a historic house museum by the Pilgrimage Garden Club and is a National Historic Landmark.

Approaching the elegant building from the street, you’ll notice its striking architecture and ornate detailing. The stunning façade features bold Corinthian columns and fine iron lacework. You might recognize the imposing structure from Disneyland. Stanton Hall provided some of the inspiration for the well-known Haunted Mansion attraction.

Gain special insight into the mansion’s intriguing history with a guided tour, lead by a Pilgrimage Garden Club member. This historical society has meticulously restored the mansion to adequately represent the period in which it was built. Learn about Frederick Stanton, the man who built the mansion with his cotton-trading wealth. Admire the mansion’s lavish furnishings, including large mirrors imported from France and ornate mantelpieces from New York. Find out about the mansion’s occupation by Union troops during the Civil War before it became the home of the Stanton College for Young Ladies.

After you have explored the stunning Stanton Hall, be sure to check out the rest of the estate. You’ll find beautifully kept gardens and lush trees. If you’re feeling hungry, wander across the road to enjoy a Southern-style lunch at the Carriage House Restaurant. There is also a gift shop selling souvenirs and historical items on the estate.

Stanton Hall is situated in historic downtown Natchez, a few blocks southeast of the meandering Mississippi River. The magnificent building is open daily. There is an admission cost for tours, which run every half hour throughout the day for approximately 30 minutes. Check out the nearby Rosalie Mansion and St. Mary Basilica while you are in the area.
