St. George Art Museum

Explore St. George’s creative side, speak with artists, and learn about the paintings, photographs and sculptures that fill this museum.

St. George Art Museum is a hub of creativity in this southern Utah city. Its alternating galleries display local artifacts as well as works from different time periods and cultures from around the globe. The museum also focuses on nurturing and educating aspiring talent with its family workshops in the discovery center, guided tours of the complex and monthly conversations with the artists.

Walk around the various galleries and peruse the exhibitions showcasing art from multiple cultures. Admire the range of art on display, which may include genres of photography, painting and porcelain ceramics. Temporary displays usually last for several months. Admire the permanent collection, which comprises mostly talent from Utah. The museum also owns and preserves many sculptures that can be seen around the city of St. George.

Take the kids to the Family Discovery Center to learn how the works are created. Then work as a team to apply this art education to create your own one-of-a-kind family artworks. Discuss pieces from the museum’s collection with the artists who created them at the conversation groups held once every month. Take a guided tour and browse the museum’s gift shop for souvenirs such as art supplies, books and jewelry.

The museum’s building was once used to store seed for a sugar beet factory. After decades of neglect, it fell into disrepair until 1997, when the St. George Art Museum was founded. It opens daily from morning until late afternoon. There is a small admission fee for adults with a lower price for children. Infants enter free. The museum is open Monday through Saturday.

The St. George Art Museum is located in the city’s northwest sector near Vernon Worthen Park. The museum is easily accessible via the interstate highway that cuts through St. George. Art enthusiasts will enjoy this opportunity to see work unique to Utah and the U.S. Southwest.
