It is an old boat and is difficult to maintain- it was what I expected and I enjoyed being there !

Hi Norman, many thanks for your review. Indeed, 'Cutty Jean' is a truly historical vessel still bearing the 'proper' patina and battle scars of times long gone by. Myself and crew go through immense efforts, expense and dedication maintaining, detailing and upgrading her with all the modern creature comforts without spoiling her classic looks, historical features, lustre and ambiance feel.. it is a heart warming feeling and a great satisfaction knowing that there are still people who appreciate what it takes keeping a boat of this vintage in top shape and order!! :))

best way to experience boat life and Malta!
Posted 15 Jul 2019 on HotelsIt was an amazing stay. Very romantic with beautiful scenry of the Malta. I really recommend if someone wants to have an actual experience of staying in a boat(Yacht). The Capt. and all the members were nice and welcoming. But please understand that this is an actual boat experience, not a normal hotel(small room, bathroom, etc...)

Fantastic stay in Sliema
Posted 23 Sep 2018 on HotelsCaptain Charles and his wife run a fantastic houseboat which makes a great change for a boring hotel. I spent the afternoon relaxing on the sun deck before being whisked off to Valletta by speed boat for the evening. Then after dinner called Captain Charles to again taxi us back to the houseboat for a night cap of Malt Whisky.
Simple the best night in Malta!

Solo trip to Malta
Posted 20 Sep 2018 on HotelsWas met with a warm welcome from owners Charles & Daria & there is a friendly family atmosphere on the boat.
Cutty Jean has lots of character as it was a working fishing boat. The cabin (room) was clean & comfortable. There is a buffet breakfast provided on deck which was perfect for relaxing especially with a drink in the evening.
Restaurants & cafes are all around & all the boats going around the island are close too, but its still quiet & peaceful on the boat.
The ferry to Valetta is a 5 minute walk away.
If I ever return to Malta I will definitely stay here again.

I wasn't sure what to expect about staying on a boat, but the MS Cutty Jean was a great place to do just that. I felt immediately welcome by the crew. If you are afraid of staying on boats because of sea sickness, don't worry - the rocking of the sea put me to sleep every night. The Cutty Jean was located right next to a bus stop, making it very easy to use public transportation to get around Malta. We were also very close to the cruises and day trips. I recommend staying here, I wish I could have had more time. I also recommend bringing a small bag or duffel, as the rooms are big enough to accommodate for sleeping. This isn't your typical hotel, but that's what I like about it. The Cutty Jean made my experience in Malta so much better.

House boat in Sliema, Malta
Posted 12 Aug 2018
Pros: Stunning views of Valetta from the boat. Great location for seeing the island via boat trips, ferry or hop on hop off bus. Lovely, friendly hosts.
Cons: A larger toilet and shower cubicle, but I accept it is a boat and room is limited so you may have to accept this.
Location: Fantastic location. Buses, boats, ferries all nearby for getting around. Shops, restaurants and bars on doorstep. Small rocky area for swimming.
As you would expect a boat to be - small and little headroom, so not ideal for the taller, larger person. Tiny toilet and separate shower - not like the one shown in the photos of the property. That aside, reasonably comfortable. Owners very hospitable. Nice continental style breakfast on the deck. Had booked a cabin but was given the room where the steering wheel/controls were which had a larger bed. However, there was no sink to wash my hands after the loo or to brush my teeth and, although there were curtains around und the bed area there were none along the main front window so I did not feel happy getting undressed for bed or changing into my swimming costume with the day trip boats going past. When I said I was not happy I was moved into a cabin which had a small sink and some privacy so was much better, although a bit claustrophobic. Great if you want something adventurous or a bit different but think carefully about bathroom arrangements. Obviously shared facilities and no paper allowed down toilet. I had to use the loos in the local shopping centre or fast food restsurants which is when I wished I had booked a hotel! Nice to meet other travellers for a chat if you are a single traveller.

Perfect location in Sliema, just 5 minutes walk from some nice
restaurants and bars, but still quiet. Beautiful views of Valletta
and a short walk to the ferry across the bay to Valletta or 20 minutes
walk to St Julian's Bay. Spotlessly clean cabin, lovely continental
breakfast spread. Our host Charles and his wife couldn't be more
friendly and went the extra mile to be helpful and look after their
guests.
Something totally different to one of the standard hotel rooms. Highly recommended!
